IUPAT Ontario and IFSTC Partner for Drywall Trade Apprenticeship Programs

The Ontario Council of Painters (OCP) of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) is excited to announce drywall trade apprenticeship training opportunities that allow union and non-union members alike the ability to receive certification in the industry. IUPAT Ontario has worked to forge a partnership with the Interior Finishing Systems Training Centre (IFSTC) in order to give students, trades people, contractors and other individual’s access to the hands-on experience and knowledge they need to begin working in a dynamic trade.

IUPAT Ontario – Strengthening the Workforce with Apprenticeship Opportunities in Ontario

A strong team of allies can be a powerful entity. Unions of like-minded, goal-driven people can work to bring about positive change and support influential decisions by the government. The rights, wages, benefits and safety standards of present-day working environments have nearly all arisen from the minds and voices of groups of people working together to improve their standard of living. These strong and principled unions live on in today’s working world to ensure the workers’ voice remains consolidated and respected.

IUPAT Ontario and OIFSC & IFSTC Provide Assistance with Employing Women in Construction in Ontario

The Ontario Council of Painters (OCP) of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) was chartered in March of 1971 and has spent the four decades since its inception in a committed effort of assisting women in construction throughout Ontario. IUPAT strives to provide every woman with the opportunities they require to excel in the workplace, offering guidance in education, job placement and the networking support necessary for helping individuals succeed despite an often uneven hiring market.

Training programs that are specific to industrial Ontario IUPAT members that are employed will be accepted. The local Union Representative may approve the specific Health & Safety training in the area.

New WSIB Return-to-Work Regulations for the Construction Sector

On September 1, 2008, new regulations under Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Act went into effect regarding the employer’s obligation to offer to re-employ workers following a workplace injury in the construction sector. Note that the new regulations apply only to workplace injuries that occur after September 1, 2008. Workplace injuries that occurred prior to September 1, 2008 are still subject to the previous return-to-work regulations.
