International Union of Painters and Allied Trades

Welcome to the official website for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades’ (IUPAT) Ontario Council. Our construction trade union represents a variety of skilled trades in Ontario, including painters, drywall finishers, glaziers/glass and metal technicians, EIFS/stucco workers, and hazmat workers.

Our Trade Union Members Matter

At IUPAT, every member is a priority. Whether you’re just starting on your skilled trade journey, an experienced tradesperson, or a retired member, our objective is to support you and your voice.

Here are some ways we support you:

To make sure your voice is heard, we run Local Meetings every month. At these Local Meetings, you can learn about upcoming events, relevant news, and participate in discussions about the union. We want to hear your voice!
To make sure you are best prepared for the workplace, we have partnered with FTI Ontario and IFSTC to provide you with up to date health and safety training.
To make sure your health and future is well protected, we offer comprehensive benefits, and a pension.
Our Business Representatives are available to you whenever you have questions or concerns about your job site, health and safety, or when you’re looking for job opportunities.

Members Perspective

When I began working with the union, I really felt I had found the right fit for me. The union gave me an opportunity to further myself and challenge myself in ways that made me feel capable and gave me security. Rather than digging myself into a hole of never-ending student debt, discovering my passion and abilities in industrial and commercial painting allowed me to make income while becoming certified during my apprenticeship.

School was never my strong suit, I struggled academically. During my brief time as a high-rise window cleaner, I discovered that I enjoyed physical work – completing a task made me feel accomplished. I also enjoyed being able to move around for work and meet new people. Essentially, each new job felt like a new adventure.

I joined the union five years ago as a Glazier and it has lead to many great opportunities.
