If you have COVID-19

1. Stay at home unless you need medical care

  • The majority of people who have contracted COVID-19 will only experience mild symptoms and can recover without medical attention. Stay home and do not expose yourself to public places unless you absolutely need medical attention.
  • Avoid taking public transportation, taxis, or ride-sharing.
covid-19 isolate yourself

2. Isolate yourself from others

  • If you believe you have COVID-19, you should avoid being in contact with other people as much as possible.
  • Try containing yourself to a room and a separate bathroom if possible. Avoid using public areas in your home, and avoid high-touch points.
  • Use a mask or cloth covering your mouth.
covid-19 wash your hands

3. Maintain personal hygiene

  • Wash your hands with hot water and soap for 20 seconds. Do this often, especially after blowing your nose, coughing/sneezing, using the washroom, before and after eating, or preparing a meal.
  • Use hand sanitizer.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or by using the crook of your arm if you don’t have a tissue.

5. Monitor your symptoms

  • It’s important to keep track of your health to see how you are progressing. If you have a fever or cough, keep tabs on your temperature and your ability to breathe.
  • Seek medical attention if: you are having problems breathing, you have pain/pressure in your chest, you have confusion.
