It is the beginning of a new year and the time to begin thinking about your future. As a young adult in high school, hopefully you are enjoying your time in school. If you are a junior or senior, you may be considering opportunities for higher education and job opportunities. Some of you may think that going to a University is not for you – and that is okay. If you do not enjoy being sedentary and like to be creative, we encourage you to strongly consider a career in the trades!
Youth are a vital part of keeping the future of our Unions strong. Many of our current union members are reaching retirement age which will not only leave a gap in our membership, but will also create a demand for trained trades people in the near future. So, why are you so important to IUPAT?
With new members come new ideas and a stronger, well-trained workforce to keep up with the demands of our changing job environment. As a Union member, you can take advantage of a great wage package, solid benefit coverage, volunteer opportunities and being an integral part of important political action in our province. Training to become a Union member can begin while you are still in high school. And, one of the best parts is that you are paid while training is taking place, so there is no need for a part-time job. Another benefit is that a new career will be waiting for you once you have received your diploma.
