What is political action and activism?
In order to fully understand the political environment in Ontario, you must first learn the definitions of these important phrases. Below are explanations of key phrases that will help you come to a full realization of what it means to be a citizen of Ontario and young union activist with IUPAT.
First, political action can be defined as participation in your government by letting your voice be heard. The most popular action is to vote. As a responsible citizen, you are given the important opportunity to take stances on various issues and afforded the right to speak out by casting your vote in important elections. As we are heading into an October 25, 2010 Municipal Election we have a lot on the line. Our bargaining rights are threatened at the City of Toronto and school board if the Labour Friendly candidates are not elected. As a young activist leader, you can educate and influence others on what stance to take on important issues like the labour movement and by helping to protect jobs and the collective bargaining power that keeps IUPAT Ontario strong. Standing up for your beliefs can make a significant impression on your community and their economic future. Moreover, as a global citizen, each of us has the power and influence to create a sustainable and exciting future that awaits all of us.
