Toronto painters have very demanding jobs. This makes it important for every painter to take care of himself or herself. Some of the best ways for Toronto painters to say healthy include:
- Making and keeping regular physician appointments. Wellness visits are critical, because they help ensure that everything is going well in a painter’s body. To help painters who are IUPAT members, the Toronto Health and Dental Centre offers the opportunity for patients to partner with physicians.
- Getting flu shots and other recommended vaccinations and tests. Each year, the flu sweeps through Toronto and the rest of Ontario. Even if a painter has a very strong immune system, the influenza virus can be stronger. A flu shot can be a way to stay fit throughout the cold months, as well as avoid bringing the flu into the workplace or home. You should speak to your physician to see if it is right for you.
- Making sure family members are getting the healthcare they need. What happens in the home is brought to the job site. For painters to be able to fully focus on their work, they need to be assured that their loved ones are healthy. Thus, those loved ones should be going to their personal care physicians, or could look to the IUPAT’s Health and Dental Centre.
- Being aware of safety precautions and taking them seriously. Painters are exposed to some chemicals and work tools that can be harmful if they are not used safely. Security measures must always be put into place, from ventilation to masks. These keep painters from running into difficulties that could otherwise be avoided.
- Asking for help when help is needed. It can be difficult for some people who have an “I’ll do it myself” personality to ask others for help, but this can be a great way to stay healthy. Keeping the lines of communication open between colleagues and supervisors is a smart way to mitigate long-term problems.
Without health, no Toronto painter could do his or her best. At IUPAT, we want every painter working on a union job to feel in tiptop shape. If you want to know more about our Wellness Centre for you or a family member, please visit this page.
