Stucco is one of the longest lasting finishes for homes, and it is relatively easy in terms of upkeep. However, if stucco is not properly installed in the first place or if a stucco repair job is done poorly, it will not last very long, and it is likely that the damage will spread further across the exterior of your house. Some types of stucco can last for up to 100 years, so it’s the right thing consider making an investment and hiring a professional to get it done right.
Installing stucco takes skill and tools.
You might look at stucco and think that it is easier to install because it’s just putting some cement on a wall, right? IUPAT members complete 1200 hours of work in their apprenticeship, meaning that by the time they are working on your home, they’ve had a lot of practice previously. Training for stucco workers also includes health and safety certifications, which are important when working with the tools and materials used in stucco installation. Installing stucco requires tools like metal mesh, snips, heavy hammers, trowels, and protection gear. This is a significant investment if you’re installing stucco once in a century.
Why do it in summer or fall?
You can’t install exterior stucco when temperatures are dipping below freezing, as it can lead to cracking and actually increase the amount of damage. With spring temperatures being more unpredictable than usual, including late snow and frost, summer and fall are a bit safer to make sure that it is warm enough. The additional consideration is to avoid times with extreme dry heat, so look at the upcoming weather for your neighbourhood and book your stucco repair accordingly!
