Safety is one of the first and foremost issues addressed during all commercial painting training and apprenticeship experiences. Physical indicators that a site is not ventilated properly include dizziness, sudden drowsiness, asthma or tightness in the chest, nausea, and disorientation. - Understanding the chemicals involved in painting. Painting is a lot like a chemistry experiment, which means there is risk involved if paints, pigments, solvents and thinners are improperly utilized. All IUPAT painters who have apprenticed and received certification have a deep knowledge of how to keep themselves and others safe from unexpected chemical reactions.
- Wearing safety equipment. Another important angle of safety is wearing the correct gear. When you see a commercial painter at work, you’ll probably notice that he or she is wearing items such as safety goggles, hearing protection, protective clothing, specialized footwear, etc. This is done to make sure he or she is shielded as much as possible from dangerous situations.
What is most fascinating is that if a commercial painter is doing his or her job correctly, you’ll probably never notice all these safety precautions that are being taken. However, it’s essential to remember that anyone who has received training available through the IUPAT is well-versed in keeping the job site safe for premium outcomes.
