This post is one of the most difficult to write. Those of us who knew Sandro Fragale have fond memories of his laughter, his friendship, and his devotion to both his friends as well as the Council and Union. On Saturday, May 13, 2017, we lost our Brother, who passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital at the young age of 55.
As a young man, Sandro met Anita Riekko; years later, they would rekindle a friendship and ultimately say their nuptial vows and go on to raise two children, Matthew and Alexa, over nearly 30 years of marriage. His journey as a skilled tradesman began in 1981 when he initiated with the IUPAT. Over the years, he worked for Clara Industrial and Aster Painting, and continuously sought to bring a positive light to the Union and its members.
Sandro has been rightly called a true activist, working tirelessly for District Council 46 since March 2010 and representing Local 1671. What more can we say? He was beloved by everyone who had the pure privilege to share time, work, conversation, food, and life with this bright spot we will miss so dearly.
Sandro was always up for a challenge, no matter how difficult; we must remind ourselves of this in our time of grief. He brought out the best in others no matter the circumstances. No doubt he would want us to channel his compassion and fairness as we move forward.
A visitation is scheduled at Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at 8 p.m. If you wish to join us at his Funeral Mass, please note that services will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church at 10:30 a.m. Sandro’s life will be celebrated by Reverend Luigi Filippini. Internment services will take place directly afterward at St. Andrew’s R.C. Cemetery.
