On our recent Community Day of Action, Local 1671 Thunder Bay members came together to give back in a way that felt personal and meaningful – by volunteering at the Dew Drop Inn. This initiative wasn’t just about lending a hand; it was about continuing a tradition rooted in compassion and community service.
The Dew Drop Inn has been a cornerstone of support in the Thunder Bay area for decades, serving hot meals to individuals and families in need. For our Local 1671, this organization holds special significance. Years ago, our late Representative, Sandro Fragale, started the tradition of supporting the Dew Drop Inn, recognizing its importance to the people of our city. Since then, it has remained near and dear to us.
Every year, we find a way to honour that tradition – sometimes by organizing food drives, sometimes by providing financial assistance, and other times by rolling up our sleeves for hands-on support. This year, we chose to be directly involved by helping serve lunch at the Inn on a busy Saturday afternoon for our Community Day of Action.
The experience was eye-opening. In three hours, we helped serve over 300 meals to our community. The energy, the teamwork, and the gratitude we witnessed left a lasting impact on everyone involved. It was a powerful reminder of the challenges many in our city face and the importance of showing up for each other.
Our Community Day of Action was a success, not just because of the meals served, but because of the connection and compassion shared in that space. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support the Dew Drop Inn and we look forward to future collaborations with many community organizations in the Thunder Bay area.
Community isn’t just something we talk about – it’s something we do. And we’re proud to continue that work, one act of service at a time.
