One of the most rewarding aspects of holding union jobs in Toronto is the opportunity to give back to the communities that are served. Although every union worker keeps this first and foremost in his or her mind on a daily basis, there are occasions in the year when it’s possible to take this commitment to neighbors and friends further. One such opportunity is the upcoming IUPAT Community Day of Action on April 16, 2016.
About the Community Day of Action and the Toronto IUPAT
The Community Day of Action is held at all IUPAT locations across North America and advances the mission to grow the IUPAT under C.O.R.E. This April 16, members throughout the district councils will choose projects aimed at bettering the communities where they work and reside. Common Community Day of Action activities include:
- Cleaning up a local park or other green space;
- Participating in a social justice and civic justice rally; and/or
- Taking actions that help preserve and respect the natural environment and resources.
Case in point, there will be a “Building Bridges Community Fair” at 45 Norfinch Drive on April 16, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in support of Community Day of Action. At the Fair, attendees can learn about career opportunities and IUPAT-related health services. Children are invited to join the fun, as kids’ games and activities will be in the spotlight at the Fair. Best of all, the Fair is a free event for participants to get snacks, lunch and socialize in a warm, welcoming environment.
One Union, One Community, Multiple Missions
At the IUPAT in Toronto, our goal is to work as One Union on April 16 and show people across the region and beyond that our organization is one dedicated to more than just our own needs. Truly, the IUPAT in Toronto is one that builds communities and takes seriously the philosophy of giving back on every level.
