District Council 46 awards two scholarships each year to children and grandchildren of members that are moving into post secondary education at a college or university. The Scholarship Committee is comprised of members (not representatives or staff) from various Local Unions in the Council to judge essays of not less than 1000 words on a subject related to the labour movement and workers. The essay submissions are anonymous among the committee members and scored based on research, content and quality of the essay. The recipient of the 2011 Scholarship Awards are:
Luka Sovulj, a graduate from Father Henry Carr C.S.S attending McMaster University to pursue studies in Biochemistry. Luka is the son of Local Union 1891 member Josip Sovulj.
Bo Zhao, a graduate from Albert Campbell attending the University of Waterloo to pursue studies in Computer Engineering. Bo is the son of Local Union 1891 member Hong Wei Zhao.
