We would like to introduce you to a new, federally funded program that is being offered exclusively to the unionized contractor community by Canada’s Building Trades Unions.
CBTU’s In The Trades program provides financial incentives and training support to unionized contractors with less than 500 employees. Eligible contractors can receive between $5,000 and $10,000 for onboarding a first-year Red Seal apprentice, and this tax-free grant incentive can be accessed in addition to existing provincial funding programs.
Contractors are eligible to receive funding for up to two apprentices before March 31, 2023, with funding for two additional apprentices available starting April 1, 2023.
The incentive is paid out upfront upon the completion of the following steps:
- Head to inthetrades.ca and click REGISTER to fill out the easy-to-use online application form which includes contractor & apprentice information.
- Sign the sub-agreement confirming program eligibility. This must be signed and dated prior to onboarding your first-year apprentice.
- First-year apprentice completes two SkillPlan courses – Introduction to Diversity & Inclusion and Introduction to Mentorship for Apprentices. Each course takes approximately 60 minutes to complete online.
