The results of the 2015 Canadian Federal Election are in, and the votes represented a winning Liberal majority. For those holding union jobs in Toronto and all of Ontario, this is some of the best news we could receive, as it promises advantages to workers who want to be able to support themselves and their families in a progressive environment. Some of the ways that we believe that union jobs will be impacted in a constructive way thanks to the 2015 election results include:
- The Liberals have promised to make a huge investment in infrastructure and transit. This will result in many construction opportunities for our members.
- The Liberals are promising an open government and access to information and data. This type of transparency will help all the members of the IUPAT professionally and personally, as there will be a better dialogue with our federal representatives.
- The Liberal platform has an understanding of the needs of younger Canadians. This includes helping those who may be on track to start careers in trades represented by union jobs in Toronto and Ontario, through an increased investment in training programs.
- The Liberals are pushing for tax reform so that low and middle income workers will be able to keep more of their earnings. This is something all Ontarians, not just those who are part of the IUPAT, can feel good about!

To all of the IUPAT members and their loved ones who voted in this Federal Election, we celebrate your taking the time to do your civic duty. It really does matter, and it will help tradespeople across the nation have more stable, profitable and safe working lives.
