S. Frank “Bud” Raftery Scholarship Award
Applicants must submit an essay between 1,000 to 2,000 words on the topic below:
Solidarity in Uncertainty: The Labor Movement as an Economic Stabilizer
As trade disputes create new challenges for industries across the country, the role of organized labor is being redefined on the front lines of the Canadian economy. How have strained trade relations between Canada and the United States (particularly the use of tariffs) affected Canadian workers and the labor movement? In your response, talk about the role of unions in protecting workers’ rights, wages, and job security amid economic uncertainty.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a legal dependent of an IUPAT member in good standing
- Enrolled or accepted into an accredited program

Please note: The award is contingent upon the student attending a certified college, university, voc. tech./trade or other such institutes of higher learning. Award winners must enroll in the school of their choice within a year of the award date or forfeit the award.
A.L. “Mike” Monroe/Ralph D. Williams, III Sports Scholarship Awards Program
This program was created to offer student athletes the opportunity to pursue their athletic ambitions while earning an advanced education degree at the academic institution of their choosing.
Applicants must submit an essay in 1,000 words on the topic below:
Describe why you should receive this award.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a legal dependent of an IUPAT member in good standing
- Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse and declare the athletic program in which he/she will be participating
How to Apply
Applicants will be required to submit:
- An official high school transcript
- A completed history of athletic participation and special recognition in high school
- A letter of recommendation from the coach or athletic director of the institution that the applicant has been accepted and has chosen to attend
- A complete record of additional financial aid
- A completed application form
- A 1,000 word essay
